tks much.

btw, i'm not willing to shell out for photoshop, so have been using GIMP (gimp.org).
it isn't the easiest prog to use however.
anyone know of good tutorials for it?

what i miss most abt photoshop is the PSD lossless format.
though i'm never sure if you have really bad loss of image qty cos of jpeg's lossy quality.

Don't use gimp either. So I don't know. Have you ever tried hunting around on the torrent sites for a copy of Photoshop? Or do you prefer using GIMP? Gimp seems like a pretty good program with lots of features.

as with all open source projs, the UI (user interface) for GIMP is abysmal...

i'm looking for image progs to do stuff for the web.
I hear that adobe generally embed copyright info (it inserts it's license number) into the finished file.

I feel that it generally isn't good to use a non-legitimate editor to do stuff for the web, where it can be audited really easily.

for sure, i know microsoft office files contain the license info within their files. so better to be safe than sorry.

so might hv to go with Photoshop Elements. abt $80 on amazon.
