Default optimal image sizes

for other digital camera users out there,
what resolution setting do you put your camera at?

before i recently got a 7.1megapixel sony, i had a 2megapix canon ixus.
for the web i'm using mainly 1 or 2 megapix images, so i'm thinking besides shooting at high res to print large photo prints later, is there any advantage to high res images?

Hi-res images takes more space on your memory card. I`m not sure if it affects the images to the better when having hi-res, as they are printed out in lower res.

dont think so, cos film from analogue cameras prints at a much higher res that 15megapixels, so for sure you will have better looking prints.
am just thinking if high megapix pics are good for other stuff.

If you use the picture in a website or similar, I guess the quality/look is better when you have hi-res picture.

Anything more than 5 MP is a waste of memory. OPTICAL ZOOM is the key to high quality pictures. I wouldn't go with anything less than 10X optical.
