hello all!
so now you have read some faqs and know what seeds, leechers, clients etc are. (if not then please do so now : ) so how do you go about actually downloading a torrent? well this brief faq is not meant to be a step-by-step walkthrough per-se but will give you the basic steps. there are too many variables for me to give you exact steps. first you need to get a "client" which is software to connect you to other users that have files you want. for new users i recommend bittornado, utorrent, xbt for simplicity of use. then go to your favourite torrent site. e.g. http://www.isohunt.com , http://www.torrentportal.com and http://www.torrentbox.com torrent site and get a torrent : when you find a torrent and click on it then you will be on the torrent's "stats" page which tells you all about the details of the torrent. to get it click on the title of the torrent at the very top of the stats page. this lets you download a very small ".torrent" metafile. its not the files you want yet. but it will let you connect to others that have the files you are after. save it to a "torrent" folder on your hard drive. remember where you put it so you can use it in the next step. now run the client you have chosen. then use it to "open" the new .torrent file you got. (they all do it a little differently so look around a bit.) usually its something like "file" then "open" or "add torrent" etc. tell it where to find your torrent in the window that opens. then it should start running! (if not then ask in the forums. also make sure it has seeds available) if it doesnt start downloading then you could find another torrent to test. or you could ask in the forum and give us a link to the stats page so we can check it out for you. once it is downloaded, there is a very important step to do next. you MUST make sure it UPLOADS until the upload amount equals the amount you downloaded!! this is the very heart of the bit torrent protocol. BT doenst work like other p2p networks. you cant just take and leave. if you do then the ppl after you that are trying to get the files may not be able to! if you dont share then everyone suffers (including yourself, in the long run). so keep the client open until the "share ratio" is AT LEAST 1:1 or 100%, and MORE is welcome also! there are too many people already that just take and dont give back and it makes it much harder for everyone to download files because of them. if you seed MORE than you got it helps to make up for the losers who left without seeding. so please seed as much as you leeched or more! after you hit 100% or more uploaded then you can close the client or remove the torrent from the client at least. now open the folder the client made for this torrent. (it should have the same name as the .torrent file you were downloading). if you dont know where it is then search your clients "settings" to see what the default SAVE folder is. then open the folder to see the files you have gotten. you may see files you arent familiar with like : .rar .iso .mds .cue .bin .nfo now its time to find out what to do with them! it will tell you all the rest you need to know in detail. it links to lists, tutorials etc. and has sections for the types of torrents you will be getting. so if you have gotten a movie torrent then see the "playing a movie" section. for a game torrent see "installing a game" which tells you how to crack it etc. and above all else read the NFO or TXT file you got in your torrent which will have directions on what to do with your torrent. (the faq will tell you how to find the nfo, if you dont see it, and what to read it with) so congratulations. youre not a torrent noob anylonger! but as i said, see the faq for "semi"-noobs for more help. if that doesnt help or doesnt make sense to you then by all means, please post a question in the forum and we'll be happy to help! happy torrenting! ![]() SOURCE: http://forums.torrentportal.com Last edited by snoopinc; 08-07-2006 at 04:23 AM. |

THat is one point the copying of other posts.
The other one is this.... Quote:

I don't mind people copying my posts. If they just ask for permission which I'd gladly give.
Other folks might have another opinion about their posts showing up somewhere else Since I consider torrentportal the site I'm in charge of - I have nothing against posting links to it. But admins/mods of the site where you make you post might not like it KNOW WHAT AND WHERE TO POST! Be responsible!

Well, I think you cannot copyright as your own other people's intellectual properties.
