Default A Good News Thread

Have you noticed that we usually debate only the bad things in life.

Well, for a change, I thought I’d introduce this Forum where anyone can put down current news that they think is good. We all love good news but very seldom are there any groups that record the happiness.

Let me start out with this gem:

Bolivian President Donates Salary to Peru Quake Victims

Bolivian President Evo Morales said Monday that he would donate half of his monthly salary to emergency aid for families that are victims of the devastating earthquake in neighboring Peru. Other cabinet members would donate as well.

Let's see if you guys can find some more good news that you want to add to this thread.

Man Rides Mule From Minnesota to Wyoming in Search of Work

08/21/07 -- GILLETTE, Wyo. - He rode his mule into town looking for work.

No, it wasn't the opening scene of a Western movie. It was what
Rod Maday did last week, ending a six-week odyssey from his
hometown of Boy River, Minn.

"I've done about 1,500 miles and I've got the saddle sores to
prove it," he said.

Maday said he lost his driver's license 10 years ago after he
was accused in a hit-and-run, and was having a hard time finding
work in Minnesota. He heard that Wyoming had plenty of jobs that
paid well.

He set out with two mules. About a month ago, both mules got
loose and one was hit by a car. It had to be euthanized.

Maday arrived at the Department of Workforce Services office on
Friday morning wearing a torn shirt, dusty blue jeans, spurs and a
cowboy hat. Astride his brown and silver mule, Henry, he caused
several double-takes.

He didn't stay long. He said some teenagers had yelled
"uncalled for" things at him while he was riding into town the
night before.

"Gillette's nothing like what I had thought," he said.

He left Saturday morning, riding west toward the Bighorn
Mountains.

"I could probably get a job and stay here, but I'm not willing
to part with my mule," Maday said. "He's my best friend and I'm
not getting rid of him for nothing."

Default Mass. Lottery sweepstakes winner collects $20M prize

Mass. Lottery sweepstakes winner collects $20M prize

Judith Zahn, 59, of Hatfield today claimed the winning $20 million ticket in the Massachusetts Lottery's Star Spangled Sweepstakes drawing on Wednesday.

Zahn, a nurse at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Northampton, received a $14 million check today after deducting for taxes, said Beth Bresnahan, spokeswoman for the lottery.

The lucky winner received the check at the Lottery's headquarters in Braintree. She appeared with her husband Steve, 56, a 26-year patrolman in Amherst and her daughter Hannah, 27.

Zahn bought the ticket at the Hatfield Market. She walked into the store last month and the store owner asked her if she bought a sweepstakes ticket. "The rest is history," Bresnahan said.

Zahn said that she probably would not have bought the ticket without prompting from the store owner.

The store owner, Fran Frew, will receive $200,000 before taxes as a commission for selling the winning ticket.

Two other people from Western Massachusetts, Theresa Michalczyk of Ludlow and Raymond Dion of West Springfield, each won $250,000 tickets in the sweepstakes, two of 40 such winners across the state, she said.

The Ludlow woman bought her ticket at Randall's Farm in Ludlow and Dion bought his at the E-Zee Mart in West Springfield, she said.

Someone also bought a $1 million ticket at the Stop N' Shop in Westfield, one of 10 $1 million prizes, she said.

Dream on!!!
